September
Two matches played and success in both! Tuesday 22nd September we played the Lansdown Ladies, four pairs per side and ran out winners by 4 matches to nil! Played in good weather after a bit of a squally start. Good to catch up with Jackie Court, Gill Smith and Stocky, who wangled a day off work!!

Some brilliant scores, especially from Coral and Pyl – racked up 48 stableford points between them scoring a superb 26 points on the back nine. Match played in very good spirit and Norma was welcomed into the after match chat and drinkette!

Wednesday 23rd the MCC South West GS match. Once again we met up with some old adversaries…Alan Shine, who is the match organizer, and Patrick Simpson, who was the original contact for our first match against them. Absolutely brilliant day with us running out winners by 4 matches to 1!! We were a bit lacking in WCAGS members due to several reasons, so Lansdown Ladies very kindly came up with five players to fill in. Great days golf in good weather and again some fine scores, with Lesley Smith and Pyl scoring 44 points. Coral paired up with Lansdown member Cathy Gilsom and scored 43 points and Pam teamed up with another Lansdown stalwart Jo Francis-Pope and scored 39 points!

The after match dinner was enjoyed by all and Alan Shine made his speech and handed over the trophy to Pip, Captain for the day! This is only the second time we have won this super trophy in the 15 years we have been playing for it! So it has pride of place in the Lansdown trophy cabinet.

The MCC were delighted that we would keep the WCA flag flying, and they expressed their regret at the demise of the Women’s Cricket Associates. As such, however, they were very firmly of the opinion that we must keep the history of the Women’s Cricket Association in the face of followers, so that they are aware of the history of women’s cricket prior to SKY and the ECB.

Thanks to all our members who played. I am hoping to bring the dates for both these matches forward next year; this will give our working ladies the chance to play.
